We are committed to long-term involvement in the lives of individuals involved in prostitution and their families.
The Door of Hope team does not seek to impose decisions on our service users, but to help and enable them to make informed decisions about their lives; we aim to support them with each step they make on the long journey to recovery.
The project's expected activities for 2007/2008 are likely to involve:
Contacting and offering primary advice to around 771 women on the streets
- Based on present statistics it is likely that around 51% of these women will be aged under 30
- This is forecast to be around 428 day time follow-up appointments and external appointment support
- Around 875 packets of condoms will have been distributed on the street
- We estimate accompanying service users to 177 appointments (medical, social services, families, other inter agency work etc) including acting as advocates in court
- We anticipate liaising with health care agencies on behalf of 129 women (in most cases, accompanying clients to first appointments and subsequent follow-up providing support and advocacy)
- Around 10 women are expected to be referred for life skills and employment preparation training
- 12 women are likely to have been assisted in moving, resettlement, decorating and equipping their homes
- Information will have been provided to around 50 women suffering domestic violence
- Around eight young people at risk could be referred to local young people's support agencies
- Nine women may be helped to move to short term safe accommodation
- 55 people are likely to attend day trips and social events
- We estimate obtaining birth certificates for circa 25 individualss to help them access benefits and housing services
- A number of individuals are likely to have stopped or reduced their habitual pattern of prostitution
